Hello. I'm Rita Sorrentino, a retired elementary teacher from SDP. I have participated and enjoyed previous book clubs and I look forward to this one. When I attended elementary school, we didn't have a school or classroom library. Our teachers and parents encouraged us to frequent the public library. Fond memories of a special place with wonderful librarians.

Hi,

I'm Janice. I was a reading specialist and literacy coach for most of my career, and then went on to teach grad classes in Cabrini University's Reading Specialist Program. I'm also a co-director of the Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project. A common thread through all of my personal and professional life has been the the value of reading at all ages. It starts with having access to books and positive experiences with reading, and that's what this book is about. I'm looking forward to discussing the book with others!

I am happy to be part of this group as an elementary librarian. I have taught at all all grade levels preschool thru grad school and I am always eager to read the latest research on how to support a life long love of reading.

Hi Jacqueline,

It's great to have a librarian joining us! We'll be interested in hearing your thoughts from that perspective, as well as from your experience at all grade levels!

Hi All,

I'm Carol Shiffrin. Reading has always been paramount in my professional life as an elementary and secondary classroom teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach, director of language arts, and instructor in the graduate Reading Specialist program at Cabrini University. Reading has been paramount in my personal life, too, as my activity of choice from childhood, when I used to keep a book on my lap to read during dinner, until today, when I have my upstairs book, downstairs book, and car book. I know from her earlier works, that Donalyn Miller is very inspiring, and I look forward to discussing her latest book and being inspired by you, my colleagues.

Hi Carol,

It's great to "see" you here! I love the image of the upstairs, downstairs, and car books! I can relate. One of my first thoughts with any impending waiting room or travel situation is what book(s) to bring! I think this genuine love of reading is something we would all want to encourage for our students!
