This session will discuss the identified needs in schools and districts as it relates to overall student achievement in literacy development. When competing philosophies of reading instruction exist in school systems, confusion ensues for teachers and administrators. This presentation will focus on the role and interdependence of focused assessment, instruction and intervention. Additional focus will examine common reading behaviors thread throughout all aspects of literacy.
About the presenter: Kelly Philbin works with Heinemann in a dual role as a National Content Specialist and Area Sales Director. She is currently working towards a doctorate in Reading, Literacy, Assessment and Evaluation and holds a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership. Prior to her career in educational publishing, Kelly spent 15 years in a variety of positions in school districts across the Northeastern part of the US. She has presented on various literacy topics at both local and national conferences, such as the Keystone State Reading Association Conference and the State of Maryland International Reading Council Conference, with a focus on ensuring the needs of all learners through both a print and digital pathway. |
